  • 2 pages, with “facing pages” checked

  • Start # = 2

  • Columns 1, column gutter 0.1667in

  • Margins = 0.625 in. all sides

FYI: Futura is a great free replacement to Sofia in all tutorials.

Step 1: Creating Diagonal Frames

  • Start by working on the left page.

  • Use the Rectangular frame tool (F) to create a long, diagonal frame.

  • Go to "Object" > "Corner Options" and select "Rounded" to round the frame corners to your liking, ensuring a smooth look.

  • Rotate the frame to a 45-degree angle or as desired.

  • Create multiple frames with varying sizes, focusing on a larger one for the main subject.

    • You can change the size by utilizing the controls that are on all four sides and corners of the image frame.

Step 3: Making a Compound Path

  • Select all created frames.

  • Navigate to "Object" > "Path" > "Make Compound Path" to merge the frames into a single frame.

  • This step allows you to insert a single image that will automatically fit into all the frames.

Step 4: Inserting and Adjusting Images

  • Find an image you want to use and drag it into the compound frame.

  • Resize the image proportionally by right clicking on the frame and going to "Fitting" to select "Fit Frame Proportionally."

  • Adjust the image position within the frame manually as needed.

Step 5: Adding Text and Color Accents

  • Use a contrasting color to the image, such as blue to an orange image, to create rectangles with rounded corners.

    • Use the Rectangle Tool (M) and the "Object" > "Corner Options" to make it rounded.

  • Place these rectangles strategically to fill gaps and add visual appeal.

  • For text, create text boxes, apply your preferred font, and insert text content.

  • Balance the layout with text, images, and design elements to create an appealing composition.

Step 6: Finalizing the Right Page

  • On the right page, add titles, subtitles, and text boxes as needed.

    • I’m using Sofia Pro Bold at 36pt font for the title.

    • Sofia Pro Bold at 18pt font for the sub heading.

    • Sofia Pro Regular at 12pt font for the body paragraph.

    • Sofia Pro Medium at 24pt font for the quote with the color HEX: 3a63af.

  • Insert images into rounded-corner frames in a balanced manner.

  • Ensure text and image elements are visually pleasing and harmonious.

Step 7: Enhancing Cohesion

  • Add blue-colored elements to the right page to maintain design consistency.

    • Make sure to also add the rounded corners. You can also just copy them by dragging them over with “Alt” held down to copy.

  • Arrange these elements to connect both pages and enhance visual flow.

Step 8: Applying Strokes for Polish

  • Select all relevant elements and apply a white outline (stroke) to them.

  • Adjust the stroke width to create a rounded border around the elements for a polished look.

Step 9: Final Touches

  • Review your layout, making any necessary adjustments for symmetry and aesthetics.

  • Experiment with different design variations.

Well, there you have it, folks! We hope you had as much fun creating this fantastic InDesign layout as we did guiding you through it.
